Persistent Pilgrims

Hello and welcome to my website! I hope that you are either a persistent pilgrim already or that you are on the way to becoming one. Pilgrims include people who follow Jesus and the Christian journey is well described by John Bunyan in his famous classic ‘Pilgrim’s Progress.’ Following Jesus is not always easy and life can sometimes feel like climbing Everest alone. I love the passage in the Bible where Isaiah says:

“The everlasting God, Yahweh,
the Creator of the ends of the earth, doesn’t faint.
He isn’t weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the weak.
He increases the strength of him who has no might.
Even the youths faint and get weary
and the young men utterly fall;
but those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength.
They will mount up with wings like eagles.
They will run, and not be weary.
They will walk, and not faint.”

Isaiah 40:28b–31 WEB

The reason that this passage is so precious to me is described in Session 10 of my book ‘God’s Heart for Answering Prayer.’

I also love the example of Jesus’ mother Mary. She didn’t run away in fear from the pain of the crucifixion, she was there near the foot of the cross going through the agony of it along with Jesus. Jesus knew her need and because she stayed close she was within earshot when Jesus appealed to her nephew John to take her in as his own mother. With God watching out for her needs she was not left alone. For God to rely on a human being to step up and help is food for thought. Could He be wanting to rely on us for something I wonder. There is more about Mary in Sessions 12 and 45 of ‘God’s Heart for Answering Prayer.’
